Top Things to Do in Bali with Kids

Bali is not just for honeymooners. With a little planning it turns into one of the easiest places in the region to travel with children.

Ask most people what Bali is for and they will say couples and sunsets. They are missing half the island. Bali rewards families generously, with a run of activities that keep small children entertained and older ones genuinely interested. Here is where we would start.

Wildlife and animal parks

Days built around animals almost always land well. Bali Safari and Marine Park lets children get close to elephants, lions and zebras from a safari tram, while Mason Elephant Park near Ubud pairs encounters with a conservation story that gives the day some weight. Go early to beat the heat and the crowds, and build in downtime afterwards — a morning at a wildlife park is a full one for little legs.

Beaches and gentle water

Not every Bali beach suits children, but the calm ones are golden. Sanur and Jimbaran offer gentler water for paddling and long, patient sessions of sandcastle building. For older children who can swim confidently, the easy snorkelling at Blue Lagoon in Padang Bai is a safe first taste of Bali's underwater world, with bright fish in water shallow enough to feel manageable.

Culture they can join in with

The cultural side of Bali is surprisingly hands-on. Traditional dance performances hold attention with their colour and drama, and Ubud is full of cooking classes and art workshops built for mixed-age groups. Making an offering, learning a few steps of a Legong dance or painting a batik gives children a memory that outlasts any theme park.

Mix one big outing with a slow beach day and you will have found the island's family rhythm. The opportunities are endless; the trick is simply not to cram them all into a week.
